Antony Szmierek

The Manchester-rooted musician and writer Antony Szmierek moves between spoken word, indie pop and electronica. His tracks revolve around everyday scenes, urban stories and intimate portraits, told with a rap-like cadence and a direct, unflinching writing style. In the early 2020s he put his first songs online; in 2023 he consolidated his approach on the EP Poems To Dance To: spoken lines that blossom into melodic refrains, supported by accessible beats that flirt with house and slow hip-hop. His compositions favour simple but thoughtful structures, leaving plenty of space for lyrics, narrative and timing.

On stage that hybrid form becomes sharply defined: sometimes with a band, sometimes in a stripped-down setting, often close to the audience. The energy draws as much from the tradition of spoken word as from the dynamics of indie gigs. Expect a set that moves between pulsing electronics and short vignettes, with an emphasis on flow, rhythm and nuance.
