Grupo Niche brings the Niche Disco Tour to Montreal on May 17, 2026 at MTELUS, with a set built for dancers and listeners alike. Founded in 1979 by composer and bandleader Jairo Varela and rooted in the Cali scene, the Colombian orchestra meshes tight horn lines, Afro-Caribbean percussion and layered choruses. The show moves between salsa dura, tender ballads and story-driven pieces, drawing on a catalogue that includes Cali Pachanguero, Buenaventura y Caney, Una aventura and Busca por dentro, alongside recent arrangements shaped by musical director José Aguirre. On stage, the groove runs on mambos and montunos, congas and timbales rolling under trombones and trumpets, while multiple lead voices trade verses with the coro. Between celebratory anthems and portraits of Pacific coast towns or city nights, Grupo Niche keeps its rhythmic identity front and center: concise arrangements, earthy swing and melodies that stick.
