Info
John Pizzarelli performs at Théâtre Maisonneuve in Montréal on July 4, 2026. A guitarist and singer firmly rooted in the American jazz tradition, he refined his art under the guidance of his father, Bucky Pizzarelli, and developed a distinctive way of marrying swing drive, bossa nova color and a relaxed crooner’s phrasing within the tight framework of an acoustic trio. From late‑1970s New York clubs to international tours, he has remained close to the Great American Songbook while continually reimagining it: tributes to Nat King Cole on Dear Mr. Cole and P.S. Mr. Cole; homages to Sinatra; Ellington reworked on Rockin’ in Rhythm; and melodic detours into pop with Midnight McCartney. His taste for Brazilian repertoire is evident on Sinatra & Jobim @ 50, while Better Days Ahead pares things back to solo guitar, offering clear, economical reinterpretations of Pat Metheny. On stage expect crisp time, close interplay, compact arrangements and room for melody, scatting and storytelling. Standards, inventive reharmonizations and his supple seven‑string touch set the tone.
