Info

On February 21, 2026, Big Sugar plugs back into Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. Led by guitarist-singer Gordie Johnson, the Toronto-born project has spent decades bending heavy blues rock toward reggae and dub, with flashes of hard rock and psychedelia. From the self-titled 1991 debut and Five Hundred Pounds to Hemi-Vision and Heated, then Yardstyle and Eternity Now, the group keeps a tight line between riff, bass weight and offbeat groove. On stage, that dialogue between overdriven guitar, low-end churn and skanking rhythms shapes a live set that moves from tough blues to head-nodding sway, an approach honed from early club shows to larger rooms across Canada.

Support comes from Wide Mouth Mason, the Saskatoon outfit known for a blues-leaning rock sound that folds in funk, soul and pop. After early breakthroughs in the late 90s, the band leaned harder into electric blues on Rained Out Parade and, as a duo around Shaun Verreault and Safwan Javed, on I Wanna Go with You. Their long-standing link with Johnson shows in the shared taste for groove and grit, making them a natural fit for this Danforth Music Hall date.
