Info
Garmonbozia presents The Obsessed in concert on November 1, 2026 at 6:00 PM at Glazart. The Obsessed was founded in the late 1970s in Potomac, Maryland, by guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan). The band emerged in the wake of musicians and artists such as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, The Dictators and The Stooges. The group split at the end of the 1980s after Wino moved to California to join Saint Vitus. At that time, a German label, Hellhound Records, and the booking agency that had signed Saint Vitus released The Obsessed, initially recorded in 1985, which prompted Wino to reform the band. After multiple lineup changes, the group signed with Columbia Records in 1994 to release its third album, The Church Within. Despite criticism, the band broke up after the album’s release, Wino then forming Spirit Caravan (and later Shine) along with other projects.
In September 2011, The Obsessed returned to the stage at the Roadburn Festival with the lineup from The Church Within. The band played a few other reunion shows over the following two years, notably at Hellfest in 2012 and at Maryland Deathfest in May 2013. Wino announced the band’s definitive return in March 2016 and the official signing of a contract with Relapse Records to record a follow-up to The Church Within. Consequently, in 2017 Sacred was released—the first studio album by The Obsessed in more than twenty years—followed in 2024 by Gilded Sorrow.
