Ackboo

Active on the French dub scene since the late 2000s, Ackboo creates music at the intersection of dub, reggae, electro and dancehall, with a strong taste for deep bass, slow or steppers rhythms and a version-oriented approach rooted in sound system culture. Ackboo first appeared in 2007 on a compilation from the German label Phoenix Uplifment, then released the maxi Bangladesh Dub in 2009 on the English label Roots Youths, followed by the 4-track How Long in 2011 on Black Redemption. His debut album Turn Up The Amplifier came out in 2013 on Hammerbass Records and established a format in which instrumental productions and guest vocalists respond to each other. In 2014 Ackboo followed with the Pressure Riddim EP on his own Tanta Records and a split project with Bush Chemists. His trajectory continued with Invincible in 2016 and a move toward independence that began in 2017. In 2018 Ackboo released Pharaoh, partly funded through a crowd-funding campaign. Across his records he has collaborated with artists such as Horace Andy, Linval Thompson, Brother Culture, Marcus Gad, Taiwan MC and Dan I Locks. On stage Ackboo presents a live show centered on real-time dub mixing, often accompanied by an MC or a singer.
