Bombay Bicycle Club
Formed in Crouch End, north London, Bombay Bicycle Club brings together Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Suren de Saram and Ed Nash around a songwriting approach initially rooted in guitar-driven indie rock, which quickly opened up to folk, acoustic and electronic textures and to influences beyond British rock. Bombay Bicycle Club emerged in the mid-2000s after winning the Road to V competition in 2006, circulating several EPs and establishing itself on the London scene and at UK festivals. The debut album I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose (2009) provided a nervous, melodic foundation, while Flaws (2010) favoured a stripped-back folk approach. The band returned to a more electric format with A Different Kind of Fix (2011), then broadened its palette further on So Long, See You Tomorrow (2014), where rhythms, loops and travel-inspired influences play a bigger role. After a hiatus announced in 2016, the members pursued side projects before Bombay Bicycle Club returned in 2019, followed by Everything Else Has Gone Wrong (2020) and My Big Day (2023), an album marked by multiple guest contributors and songwriting more open to pop arrangements.
