Atarashii Gakko!

Formed in Japan in 2015 around Mizyu, Rin, Suzuka and Kanon, Atarashii Gakko! develops a Japanese pop built as much on singing as on movement. The group employs a subverted school-uniform aesthetic, distinctive choreography and a mix of J-pop, electropop, funk and rock. After an initial local rollout, Atarashii Gakko! officially debuted in Japan in 2017 on Victor Entertainment with the single "Dokubana" and refined its identity on the albums Maenarawanai (2018) and Wakage Ga Itaru (2019), where pop songwriting is paired with deliberately offbeat staging. The international turn began in 2021 with a signing to 88rising and the release of "Nainainai", followed by the EP Snacktime (2021), partly produced with Money Mark. The group then released the EPs Ichijikikoku (2023) and Maningen (2023) before the album AG! Calling (2024). Over the years the quartet has also crossed into varied musical worlds through collaborations with H ZETTRIO, Warren Hue, Seiho, Sheena Ringo and Maximum the Hormone. Active on pop stages and at festivals in Japan and abroad, Atarashii Gakko! also marked a milestone with a performance at the Nippon Budokan in January 2024.
