Fools Garden

Formed in the early 1990s in Pforzheim, Germany, Fools Garden developed around singer Peter Freudenthaler and guitarist Volker Hinkel in a pop‑rock vein strongly influenced by 1960s melodies and a sensibility close to britpop. The band first established itself on the German scene before reaching a wider audience with the song "Lemon Tree," from the album Dish of the Day (1995), which cemented their writing style built on catchy choruses, bright guitars and a melancholic yet light tone. The early records, from Once in a Blue Moon (1993) to Go and Ask Peggy for the Principal Thing (1997), confirm an aesthetic centered on the pop song, while For Sale (2000), 25 Miles to Kissimmee (2003) and Ready for the Real Life (2005) broadened the scope toward more contemporary melodic rock. Over the years the line‑up changed several times and the band increasingly operated around the Freudenthaler/Hinkel duo, relying on various musicians for studio work and live shows. Still active, Fools Garden continues to record and perform regularly, mainly across Europe.
