Jette Torp

Born in Frederiksberg and partly raised in Ry, Jette Torp emerged on the Danish scene at the crossroads of melodic pop, Scandinavian variety entertainment and, at times, a country sensibility. Trained in general music pedagogy at the Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, she was first noticed in the early 1990s in Finn Nørbygaard's show Biz, before developing her own shows and continuing stage work with Musik & Fis in 1994. Her profile widened further at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 1997 with "Utopia." Across her discography Jette Torp moves from English-language vocal pop on Here I Am (1998) and What If I Do (1999) to more varied formats with New Tracks (2001), Snowflakes in Fire (2002) and Past the Point of Rescue (2003), where country and soft‑rock influences become more pronounced. She has notably collaborated with producer Jan Glæsel, recorded a duet with Andrew Strong and made recordings featuring Toots Thielemans. She then turned to repertoire more closely associated with song and covers with Close to You – 14 enestående Carpenters klassikere (2006), MikrofonSangerinde (2007), Der er ingenting i verden så stille som sne (2009) and Close to You (2011), alongside regular television appearances and stage work.
