TsuShiMaMiRe

Active since 1999, TsuShiMaMiRe formed in Japan, in the Chiba area, around a trio format that remains central to their identity. The band blends punk rock, noise rock, alternative and indie rock, frequently veering toward funkier bass lines, pop melodies and abrupt tempo changes. TsuShiMaMiRe’s songs alternate between tension, humour, dissonance and more immediate choruses, while Mari’s lyrics often address social conventions, relationships and everyday anxieties in an offbeat register. The group’s trajectory has been shaped as much by its records as by sustained live activity, not only in Japan but also in the United States and Europe, where the trio has toured repeatedly over the years. The current lineup brings together Mari on vocals and guitar, Yayoi on bass and backing vocals, and Asami on drums and backing vocals. Across its discography, TsuShiMaMiRe has maintained a nervy, contrasted songwriting style capable of shifting from frontal energy to more melodic passages without smoothing its sound, placing the band within a Japanese independent rock scene attentive both to experimentation and to the effectiveness of the songs.
