Active since the mid-2010s, CG5 is the project of American musician Charlie Green, originally from Arizona and first noticed on YouTube. CG5’s activity began with remixes and edits of popular songs and video game themes, before refocusing on original compositions strongly inspired by gaming, animated series, and internet culture. Musically, CG5 operates in melodic electronic pop, close to dance-pop, with prominent vocal lines, stacked harmonies, and structures that remain close to the short song format. CG5’s tracks often take on a narrative dimension, adopting the perspective of game characters or figures from online communities, while progressively incorporating more personal lyrics. Releasing most of its output as digital singles and EPs, CG5 relies on a steady publishing schedule on its channel and streaming platforms, and occasionally performs on stage at events connected to gaming communities.
