ĠENN

Born in Malta and later based in Brighton, ĠENN brings together Janelle Borg, Sofia Rosa Cooper, Leona Farrugia and Leanne Zammit in an Anglo-Maltese quartet that blends post-punk, experimental rock and Mediterranean folk inflections. The band has built itself between the island and the United Kingdom, with taut writing, often abrasive, where nervous rhythms, angular guitars and vocals alternate between directness and more atmospheric detours. ĠENN circulates in its tracks multiple influences without mechanically juxtaposing them, while maintaining a direct approach inherited from the indie scene. After several early tracks and noteworthy live shows in British and European DIY circuits, the band released its debut album in 2023, unum, whose title alludes to the idea of unity. This record confirms ĠENN's identity, at the crossroads of taut rock, art-punk impulses and freer textures. Among recent references, the single The Sister Of was accompanied by a video clip nominated at the UK Music Video Awards for its cinematography. ĠENN has also been programmed at events such as Eurosonic in the Netherlands and The Great Escape in the United Kingdom, and has shared the bill or toured with groups such as METZ, Deadletter and Pussy Riot, in a path that links the British alternative scene and European circulation.
