CLAMM
Based in Naarm/Melbourne, CLAMM has, since the turn of the 2020s, developed a taut strain of punk that blends post‑punk, garage and hardcore urgency — short songs, a dry bass, upfront drums and Jack Summers’ often chanted vocal delivery. The band’s core formed around Summers and drummer Miles Harding, longtime friends who have played together since childhood; Stella Rennex, originally present onstage as a saxophonist, joined CLAMM on bass in 2023, locking in the present trio lineup. In the Australian DIY circuit, CLAMM first made its mark with Beseech Me (2020), a debut EP that already displays their direct writing and rhythmic tension, before broadening their scope with Care (2022) and Disembodiment Into Ecstasy (2024). CLAMM’s lyrics address social alienation, power relations, mental health and the individual’s place in an unstable environment, without losing the very physical, stage‑oriented form. Between punk energy, post‑punk nervousness and a knack for a cutting chorus, CLAMM sits within a recent Australian scene attentive both to immediate impact and to lyrical content.
