Night Tempo

Born in Seoul in 1986, Night Tempo, whose real name is Jung Kyung-ho, has since the mid-2010s developed a body of work located between future funk, vaporwave, and reinterpretations of Japanese city pop. Initially active online, he began releasing his productions around 2014, and his name circulated more widely in 2016 with a remix of Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love, which accompanied the international diffusion of these retro-pop aesthetics. Night Tempo then built an universe founded on disco, funk and boogie loops reworked into a more danceable format, with a pronounced taste for the textures of the 1980s and Showa-era Japanese songs. This approach took official shape with the Showa Groove series, in which Night Tempo signed authorized re-edits of tracks by Wink, Anri, BaBe, Yuki Saito, Shizuka Kudo, Miki Matsubara, or Miho Nakayama. Parallel to these remixes, he also released original projects such as Moonrise in 2018, Funk to the Future in 2020, and Ladies In The City in 2021. Present on club and festival stages in Japan, notably Fuji Rock in 2019, Night Tempo has also expanded his activity to curation with the book Japanese City Pop 100 in 2022, followed by a move toward a more pop register with the launch of FANCYLABO in 2023 alongside Aoi Yagawa and Miori Ichikawa.
