Salebarbes
Driven by Acadian musicians hailing notably from New Brunswick and the Magdalen Islands, Salebarbes explores a Francophone repertoire rooted in the traditions of Acadia and Louisiana. The group brings together several singer-songwriters already active on the Canadian scene, sharing vocals and duties in a collective project focused on folk and Cajun music, with touches of country and rock. Salebarbes first made its mark on stage before committing its approach to record with Live au Pas Perdus (2019), a concert recording; then with Gin à l’eau salée (2021), which further deepens the blend of original songs and pieces drawn from the traditional repertoire; and with À boire deboutte (2023). The band’s work is grounded in danceable rhythms, rich group vocals, and a pronounced use of Acadian vernacular, while retaining accessible song structures. Active on the festival circuit and in mid-sized venues across Canada, Salebarbes cultivates an aesthetic that connects party music, folk memory, and contemporary North American Francophone culture.
