Within Ohio’s extreme death metal scene, Mutilation Barbecue operates in a brutal death metal/deathgrind aesthetic defined by gore imagery and horror-film atmospheres. Formed in Cleveland in the late 2010s, the band crafts a direct, no-frills sound built on fast tempos, hulking riffs, and prominent guttural vocals, with songs that are generally short and abrasive. Mutilation Barbecue first carved out a foothold in the North American underground circuit—between small venues and specialized events—before strengthening its presence through several physical and digital releases in the early 2020s, notably via the independent label Gurgling Gore.
