Mafalda

Based in London after growing up in Lisbon, Mafalda develops a career as a DJ and selector at the crossroads of house, disco, soul, boogie, jazz-funk and more left-field music that reach into psychedelia, hip-hop or free jazz in her radio selections. Active on the European club scene, Mafalda was first noticed for a pronounced taste for rare records and for navigating between Afro-American grooves, dance music and Balearic repertoires, with a flexible approach that favors connections between styles over a strictly club framework. Since 2019 Mafalda hosts Tropic of Love on NTS, a space where this very open aesthetic is clearly visible, between club tracks, soul songs and more contemplative excursions. Her career also includes work within the Melodies International label entourage, notably linked to Sam Shepherd and Elliot Bernard, in a context of reissues oriented toward disco, soul and boogie. Also trained in design and visual arts, Mafalda has led graphic projects parallel to the music, notably with the Soundway label. This dual activity nourishes a coherent identity, where Mafalda links record culture, sense of rhythm and attention to visual forms.
