QW4RTZ

Based in Quebec, QW4RTZ brings together four classically trained singers who have shifted their practice to an a cappella format centered on pop song, while incorporating elements of rock, folk, country, jazz, barbershop and touches of hip‑hop. QW4RTZ’s work relies on tight harmonies, entirely vocal rhythmic lines and writing that leaves clear room for humor, without sacrificing the rigor of the arrangements. On recordings as well as on stage, QW4RTZ makes choral precision coexist with playful subversions of conventions, with a repertoire that plays on stylistic contrasts rather than a single register. Over the course of their career, QW4RTZ has established itself on the Quebec and Canadian a cappella scene with a quartet concept designed for pure vocal performance, where the members’ classical training informs both the pop passages and the more folk- or jazz-inflected excursions.
