Lazuli
Born in the Gard in 1998 around brothers Claude and Dominique Leonetti, Lazuli developed a French‑sung progressive rock that also incorporates chanson, world music and electronic touches in a melodic, rhythmic and often atmospheric songwriting. Lazuli’s sound was built around the Léode, an instrument imagined by Claude Leonetti, which gives the group an immediately recognisable colour alongside guitar, keyboards, horn, marimba and percussion. First noticed on the French progressive scene with Lazuli (1999) and Amnésie (2004), the band continued with En avant doute (2007), Réponse incongrue à l’inéluctable (2009) and (4 603 battements) (2011), the latter linked to a new lineup. Having become a quintet, Lazuli then strengthened its presence on European stages, with regular appearances at festivals such as Night of the Prog in Germany and Summer’s End in the UK, as well as opening slots for Ange and for Fish, who guests on the track “J’ai trouvé ta faille” on Tant que l’herbe est grasse (2014). Lazuli’s discography continued with Nos âmes saoules (2016), Saison 8 (2018), Le Fantastique envol de Dieter Böhm (2020), Dénudé (2021) and 11 (2023).
