The Dublin Legends
Formed in the early 2010s in Dublin, The Dublin Legends brings together former members of The Dubliners who wanted to continue working on traditional Irish song. Built around singers and instrumentalists such as Seán Cannon, Gerry O’Connor, Eamonn Campbell and later Paul Watchorn and Shay Kavanagh, the group is a direct continuation of the capital’s folk repertoire, ranging from narrative ballads and patriotic airs to pub songs. The Dublin Legends focuses primarily on the live scene, touring Ireland, the UK and numerous European countries, with a regular presence at folk music festivals and mid-sized venues. Musically, they favour spare acoustic arrangements driven by guitars, tenor banjo, mandolin, fiddle and choral vocals, alternating jigs, instrumental reels and sing-alongs. Their concerts place as much emphasis on transmitting a traditional repertoire as on a collective storytelling about Dublin and Irish social history.
