Shania Twain

Born in Windsor and raised in Timmins, Ontario, Shania Twain emerged in the early 1990s from Nashville’s country scene with songwriting oriented toward pop melody and straightforward choruses. After her debut album, Shania Twain (1993), her trajectory shifted with the collaboration of producer and songwriter Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who guided the evolution of her style toward a broader blend of country, country pop and country rock. The Woman in Me (1995), Come On Over (1997) and Up! (2002) established Shania Twain in a register where guitars, radio-friendly formats and ballads interact with a self-conscious pop aesthetic while remaining tied to country’s narrative codes. This period also led to an international audience and large-scale tours. After Greatest Hits (2004), Shania Twain slowed her career for several years, in part due to health problems that affected her voice, before returning to the stage with Las Vegas residencies. She released Now in 2017, her first studio album in fifteen years, and Queen of Me in 2023. Over the course of her career, Shania Twain has also collaborated with Lionel Richie, Michael Bublé and Anne Murray, while maintaining a distinctive place between contemporary country and mainstream pop.
