FouKi
Active on Montréal’s francophone rap scene, FouKi — the alias of Thomas Gagnon-Coupal — has been crafting since the mid-2010s a universe where melodic rap meets reggae touches and pop inflections, carried by colloquial language shaped by Montréal vernacular. From the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood, he first drew attention with self-produced projects released online before joining the 7ième Ciel label, alongside beatmaker QuietMike, who became a key collaborator in defining his sound. His first official album, Zayon, arrived in 2018, followed by ZayZay in 2019 and Grignotines de luxe in 2020, affirming an approach in which breezy atmospheres and sung hooks sit alongside more introspective rap. In 2022, he released Zayon II, extending this aesthetic with numerous guest features and vocal experimentation and interplay. A regular on venue and festival stages across Québec, FouKi frequently collaborates with Jay Scøtt — notably on the track "Copilote" — and is part of a generation of Québec rappers who favor warm productions, supple rhythms, and a narrative tone that oscillates between everyday chronicles and more dreamlike escapades.
