Wolf Parade
Formed in 2003 in Montréal, Québec, Wolf Parade emerged as part of the Canadian indie rock wave of the 2000s, centered on Spencer Krug, Dan Boeckner and Arlen Thompson. The band made a name for itself on the local scene before signing with Sub Pop and releasing Apologies to the Queen Mary in 2005, an album that blends jagged guitars, saturated keyboards, taut rhythms and vocals shared between Krug and Boeckner. The group then developed a broader, more labyrinthine language with At Mount Zoomer in 2008, and moved to a more direct, nervy sound on Expo 86 in 2010—always navigating between indie rock, post-punk echoes and touches of new wave. After announcing a hiatus in 2011, Wolf Parade returned to the stage in 2016, first with new EPs and then with Cry Cry Cry in 2017, which refocused the band on more structured compositions centered on piano and synthesizers. In 2020, Thin Mind deepened this direction, giving prominence to electronic textures and songs built on repetitive motifs, confirming Wolf Parade’s trajectory as a band with a stable core but an aesthetic that continually evolves between melodic rock and experimental tension.
