Birds of Nazca

Hailing from Nantes, the instrumental duo Birds of Nazca crafts a dark, psychedelic strain of stoner rock, somewhere between crushing doom and heavy psych, where vocals give way entirely to riffs and sonic textures. The band truly came into its own in 2020 with a debut full-length that established a universe of hypnotic grooves, assertive rhythms, and gradual builds that play with tension and release. Their compositions favor often slow or mid-tempo pacing, cyclical guitar figures, and thick atmospheres, regularly cut through by airier passages that open onto an inner, contemplative imagery. On stage, Birds of Nazca has become a fixture on the French stoner and psych circuit, stringing together club and festival shows, including Ripple Fest France, West Stoner Sessions, and Cyco Farmer Fest. The group channels the direct energy of early Queens of the Stone Age, instrumental climates akin to My Sleeping Karma, and a density reminiscent of Pelican, while keeping the writing centered on repetition, dynamic contrast, and meticulous textural work. In 2023, Birds of Nazca extended this approach with the EP “Héliolite,” distilling into a shorter format their penchant for slow-burning atmospheres, psychedelic detours, and an overall massive yet structured sound.
