The Cavern Beatles
Born in Liverpool in 1989 under the name The Merseymen, The Cavern Beatles fit into the tradition of tribute bands dedicated to the Beatles’ repertoire, with a direct link to the quartet’s home city and to the history of the Cavern Club, which later authorised the band to incorporate its name and logo into their identity. Formed as a quartet, The Cavern Beatles focus on faithful stage reproduction of Beatles songs — vocally as well as in arrangements, harmonies and the aesthetic of the group’s different periods. In their early years the project concentrated mainly on the early material, notably the 1963 repertoire around Please Please Me and With the Beatles, before gradually expanding to A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles for Sale, Help! and, from the mid-2000s, the band’s entire catalogue. Since 2011 the lineup has brought together Paul Tudhope, Steve White, Craig Gamble and Simon Ramsden. The Cavern Beatles perform regularly in the UK and internationally, in concert halls, at festivals and on circuits dedicated to 1960s music, with a repertoire that emphasises pop rock, beat and the vocal harmonies characteristic of Liverpool.
