Mac Ayres
Mac Ayres is a contemporary soul singer‑songwriter from Sea Cliff, New York, who since the late 2010s has been crafting a mellow R&B that blends neo‑soul, subtle jazz inflections, and pop touches. He first drew attention with his debut project Drive Slow in 2017, laying the groundwork for a sound world centered on vocals, unhurried groove, and warm harmonies. He followed with the albums Something to Feel (2018) and Juicebox (2019), which carried this intimate aesthetic forward with mid‑tempo rhythms, supple bass lines, and writing focused on relationships and everyday life. In 2021, Ayres released Magic 8ball, a tighter project that reaffirmed his taste for stripped‑down arrangements, before returning in 2023 with Comfortable Enough, marked by an even more introspective approach. He writes, sings, and produces much of his music, and on stage he’s joined by a band that translates his songs into a more organic format reminiscent of a soul live band. Active both on record and in concert, Mac Ayres is part of an independent R&B scene where the legacy of 1970s soul and 1990s R&B is reinterpreted in a contemporary frame.
