Max Bird

Under the name Max Bird, Maxime Déchelle has developed in France a body of work at the intersection of comedy, science communication and performance. Born in Tours in 1990 and raised between metropolitan France and French Guiana, he became interested in biology and ornithology at an early age — interests that later shaped his stage persona. After studying biology he trained at the Cours Florent and began performing in Parisian theatres from 2012, while also appearing on the TV show On n’demande qu’à en rire. His writing combines scientific observation, the debunking of received ideas and physical performance in a solo show that balances knowledge and comedy. Max Bird created L’Encyclo-spectacle in 2015 and launched his YouTube channel in 2016, transferring the same mix of pedagogy and humour to video. The work expanded into radio with Par Jupiter! on France Inter from 2019 and into children’s television with C’est toujours pas sorcier on Okoo. He also published Max Bird dézingue les idées reçues (2017) and Mythes et légendes cultes revisités avec amour par Max Bird (2019), while maintaining a visible environmental commitment in his public interventions and content.
