Jontavious Willis
Originally from Greenville, Georgia, Jontavious Willis stands in the tradition of Southern acoustic blues, blending country blues, ragtime, gospel, and folk. Born in 1996, he came to prominence in the 2010s on festival and club stages devoted to roots music, where his repertoire draws as much on early forms of rural blues as on his own compositions. Jontavious Willis performs regularly solo or in small ensembles—often duos or trios—and fits naturally into lineups where blues, Americana, and traditional music intersect. His debut album, Blue Metamorphosis (2016), laid the foundations of a style centered on voice, guitar, and a direct approach to singing, while Spectacular Class (2019) deepened this engagement with traditional blues by alternating slow tempos with more up-tempo numbers. Willis’s music is marked by a constant commitment to passing on the heritage of rural blues, with particular attention to Piedmont blues forms and sacred songs, while leaving room for personal songwriting and vocal improvisation on stage.
