Christophe Marguet

Born in Paris in 1965, Christophe Marguet has since the 1990s developed a career as a drummer and composer rooted in French contemporary jazz, at the crossroads of writing, improvisation and a highly distinctive collaborative practice. Trained notably with Jacques Bonnardel, Michel Sardaby and Keith Copeland, Marguet launched in 1993 his trio Résistance Poétique with Sébastien Texier and Olivier Sens, a project that lays the foundations of his universe, balancing restrained lyricism, group interaction and constant attention to timbres. His discography under his name includes Résistance Poétique (1997), Les Correspondances (2000), Reflections (2003), Écarlate (2007), Itrane (2008), Buscando La Luz (2010), Pulsion (2012), Constellation (2013), Happy Hours (2020) and Echoes of Time (2024). Marguet has also led several projects as co-leader, notably with Daniel Erdmann, Guillaume de Chassy, Sébastien Texier, or Géraldine Laurent and Manu Codjia. His playing, precise without rigidity, sits within a jazz open to chamber forms, electric textures and the flows between melody and improvised freedom. Over the course of his career, Christophe Marguet has also performed with musicians such as Henri Texier, Louis Sclavis, Enrico Rava, Michel Portal or Joachim Kühn, on stage as well as on record.
