Alexandre Herer

Born in Chesnay in 1981 and settled in Paris after studies in classical and jazz piano at the conservatories of Issy-les-Moulineaux and then Val Maubuée, Alexandre Herer has since the 2000s built a career as pianist, keyboardist and composer anchored in contemporary jazz, improvised music and experimental forms. His playing moves between acoustic piano and electric keyboards, with a writing that crosses jazz heritage, the freedom of free jazz, tensions from the rock of the 1990s and attention to repetitive or contemporary textures. Alexandre Herer leads several long-running projects, including the trio Alexandre Herer, OXYD, Phase 380 and more recently Nunataq, released in 2020 and extended by Nunataq2 in 2022. His discography also includes Holophonic in 2012, Audiometry in 2015 and Bombay Experience in 2025, while OXYD published Oblivious in 2011, Plasticity in 2012, Long Now in 2016 and The Lost Animals in 2019. In 2010, Alexandre Herer co-founded with Julien Pontvianne and Olivier Laisney the structure and label Onze Heures Onze, which has become an important framework for his activities. He is also found as sideman or collaborator in formations related to Magic Malik, Julien Pontvianne or the Onze Heures Onze Orchestra, as well as in composition for image, notably for Les Rêves du Plongeur in 2016.
