Under the alias VC-118A, Dutchman Samuel van Dijk has been developing since the early 2010s an electronic language that blends electro, techno, dub and ambient in a register that is both physical and detailed. VC-118A is part of a broader constellation that also includes his projects Mohlao and Multicast Dynamics, linked by a shared focus on contrasts between rhythmic tension, dense sonic material and more atmospheric passages. VC-118A's music therefore articulates mechanical sequences, deep bass, cold pads and aquatic or futuristic textures, with an approach that can move from breakbeat to more abstract forms without upsetting the balance between club function and immersive listening. Across releases and performances, Samuel van Dijk has steered VC-118A between pronounced-relief electro, dark techno and narrative ambient, performing both live and in DJ sets in clubs, at festivals and on more experimental stages.
