[spunge]

Formed in 1994 in Tewkesbury, England, [spunge] developed a British ska-punk sound played as a four-piece without a brass section, combining ska’s offbeat, punk energy and choruses close to pop-punk. After the EP Kicking Pigeons in 1998, [spunge] released Pedigree Chump in 1999 and Room for Abuse in 2000 — two records that established the band on the English alternative scene. The Story So Far followed in 2002, as [spunge] expanded its audience through sustained touring and shared bills with ska and punk names such as Reel Big Fish, The Toasters and Capdown. In the early 2000s the band parted ways with its label and chose to continue independently via Dent’All Records, under which appeared That Should Cover It! (2004), Room for Abuse (2006), the self-titled Spunge (2007) and Hang On? (2014). Led by Alex Copeland with Damon Robins, Chris Murphy and Jeremy King, [spunge] remains active on stage and since the late 2010s has continued to release singles and live recordings, including Live in London (2016) and Live in ’nam... (Cheltenham) (2019).
