Zebra
Formed in 1975 in New Orleans, Zebra brings together Randy Jackson on vocals and guitar, Felix Hanemann on bass and keyboards, and Guy Gelso on drums in a trio format that blends hard rock, progressive rock and heavy metal accents. Initially active as a covers band before introducing original material, Zebra gradually established itself on the Long Island scene, where the group settled after its Louisiana beginnings. This trajectory between the American South and the East Coast informs a style built on taut guitars, high vocal lines and songwriting shaped by 1970s British rock. Signed to Atlantic, Zebra released Zebra in 1983, No Tellin’ Lies in 1984 and 3.V in 1986. After a hiatus in the early 1990s, the band resumed activity in 1994 and recorded Zebra IV in 2003, their first studio album of new songs since 1986. Zebra has continued to perform regularly, mainly around the Gulf Coast and the East Coast, while retaining its original core. The band’s career has also been marked by its induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
