Young Widows

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Young Widows took shape in 2006 in the wake of Breather Resist, when Evan Patterson and Nick Thieneman steered their songwriting toward a less frontal and more taut register. The band, now a trio with Jeremy McMonigle on drums since 2008, crafts music at the crossroads of noise rock, post-hardcore and indie rock, featuring prominent bass lines, dry, angular guitars, and a marked taste for space, repetition and dissonance. Young Widows first released Settle Down City in 2006 on Jade Tree, then joined Temporary Residence for Old Wounds in 2008, before further broadening their palette on In and Out of Youth and Lightness in 2011, where darker, almost gothic influences emerge in the textures and rhythms. Easy Pain appeared in 2014, followed by Power Sucker in 2025. Alongside their albums, Young Widows have also built their trajectory through several splits and a steady presence on the American noise, punk and indie rock scenes, maintaining an aesthetic that is abrasive, minimalist and dense.
