Wilfried
Born in Bad Goisern, Upper Austria, Wilfried Scheutz developed from the 1970s a distinctive path in Austrian pop, blending rock, blues, dialect songs and reinterpretations of folk motifs. For a time based in Graz, Wilfried played in several bands before launching his solo career with songs like “Mary, oh Mary” and “Ziwui, Ziwui,” and with the album The Crazy Baby in 1974. His repertoire navigated between rock energy, pop melodic sense and a quirky humour, with albums such as Nights in the City (1979), Ganz Normal (1981), Leicht (1987) and Berg und Tal (1990). Between 1978 and 1979 he was also the singer of Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung and contributed to their first album. In 1988 he represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest with “Lisa Mona Lisa.” Alongside music he worked for theatre, television and film. From 1996 he founded the vocal group 4Xang, then returned under his full name in more compact formats, as a duo or with the Neue Band formed with his son Hanibal Scheutz. His recent discography includes Buchstaben-Blues (2008), Tralalala (2012) and Gut Lack (2017).
