Wu Lyf
Formed in Manchester, United Kingdom, Wu Lyf (short for World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation) developed in the late 2000s an independent rock sound with post‑rock and art‑rock accents, marked by saturated organs, dense guitars and Ellery James Roberts' raspy, chanted voice. The group operated as a tight‑knit quartet, favoring a collective image over highlighting individual members and building its identity around a deliberately enigmatic visual and textual aesthetic. After several tracks released confidentially and concerts in mid‑sized venues across the UK and Europe, Wu Lyf released the 2011 album "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain", largely recorded in a Manchester church and issued on their own imprint. Wu Lyf's music, sometimes described as "heavy pop", relies on gradual buildups, simple but emphatic rhythms and abrasive vocal lines, with often cryptic lyrics. The Wu Lyf project ceased activity in the early 2010s, its former members dispersing into other bands and projects connected to Manchester's alternative scene.
