Verb T
Born in London in 1981, Thomas Conning, known as Verb T, has built a career rooted in UK hip-hop since the late 1990s. Emerging from the independent London scene, Verb T is associated with a restrained boom bap aesthetic, centred on classic rhythms and dense writing often focused on everyday life, introspection and a subtle sense of humour. After the EP Backhand Slap Talk / Technical Illness, released in 2004 with Kashmere, he issued Bring It Back To Basics in 2006 with producer Harry Love, followed by Verbs with a Vengeance in 2008 and Serious Games in 2010. Alongside his solo work, he formed The Four Owls in 2011 with Fliptrix, Leaf Dog and BVA, a collective that quickly established itself on the British hip-hop circuit, releasing the album Nature’s Greatest Mystery the same year. Verb T went on to release Morning Process (Waking Up) in 2012 and I Remain in 2013, presented as his first self-produced album. His subsequent career includes numerous joint projects with Illinformed, Pitch 92, Vic Grimes and Malek Winter, and he has also composed music for British television.
