Washington Dead Cats

Active since 1984 in France, Washington Dead Cats formed around Mat Firehair and have undergone several lineup changes, which has not prevented the group from maintaining a recognizable identity at the crossroads of psychobilly, punk rock and rockabilly. Washington Dead Cats also uses the term punkabilly to describe a repertoire that goes beyond this frame, with forays into sixties garage, surf rock, swing, rocksteady or mambo, in a universe nourished by B-movie imagery, dark humor and offbeat gore culture. After a first period marked by Go Vegetables Go! in 1986, Gore A’Billy Boogie! in 1988, Go-lden Age in 1990 and Whatchamacallit in 1991, Washington Dead Cats experienced a long period of inactivity before returning to the stage in the early 2000s. The band then picked up with Treat Me Bad in 2003 and El Diablo is Back! in 2006, before releasing Primitive Girls Are More Fun! in 2013, Under the Creole Moon in 2015, Live Under the Creole Moon in 2017, Attack of the Giant Purple Lobsters in 2019 and Monkey Brain in 2022. Accustomed to France and Europe’s alternative rock scenes, Washington Dead Cats maintain a direct live approach, between punk energy, rock'n'roll rhythms and a taste for the offbeat.
