Trey Anastasio
Trey Anastasio is an American guitarist, singer and composer, born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1964. He grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, before settling in Burlington, Vermont, where Phish formed in the early 1980s. With this band—firmly rooted in the American jam-rock scene—Anastasio developed a style that blends psychedelic rock, extended improvisation, and touches of jazz and funk; he wrote much of the group’s repertoire, ranging from short songs to multi-part suites. Alongside Phish, he has pursued a solo career since the late 1990s, leading ensembles that vary from a power trio to the expanded Trey Anastasio Band with a horn section, exploring a sound in which rock opens toward soul, groove and more structured arrangements. His solo discography includes albums such as "Trey Anastasio" (2002), "Seis de Mayo" (2004), "Shine" (2005), "Bar 17" (2006), "Traveler" (2012), "Paper Wheels" (2015), "Ghosts of the Forest" (2019), "Lonely Trip" (2020) and "Mercy" (2022). He has also worked with symphony orchestras—arranging some Phish material for orchestral settings—and co-wrote the music for the Broadway musical "Hands on a Hardbody," which premiered in 2013, while remaining active on the festival circuit and in impromptu tours across the United States.
