Tomasa del Real

Under the name Tomasa del Real, Chilean Valeria Cisternas, born in Iquique in 1986, has been developing since the mid-2010s an approach to reggaeton rooted in Latin America’s alternative scenes. After working in fashion and later as a tattoo artist, she turned to music and emerged with a sound that mixes reggaeton, Latin trap, electronic textures and club references in a frontal, synthetic aesthetic she calls neoperreo. Following early tracks released online, Tomasa del Real issued the album Bien Y Mal in 2016, then Bellaca del Año in 2018 and TDR in 2019. Her trajectory intersected with artists and producers connected to this new transnational scene, including Ms Nina, Ceaese, DJ Blass and Eli Fantasy, across Chile, Mexico, Spain and the United States. Tomasa del Real also appeared on international festival lineups, notably Coachella in 2019. In 2023 she released the EP Revenge Pxrn, which continues a style where dembow and reggaeton rhythms converse with a more abrasive urban pop and visual codes inherited from the internet.
