Unit Moebius
Formed in The Hague in the early 1990s, Unit Moebius brought together Menno van Os, Guy Tavares, and Jan Duivenvoorden around abrasive techno, traversed by acid, industrial, and a lo‑fi aesthetic directly linked to the DIY spirit of the Dutch squat and punk scene. Active mainly between 1992 and the late 1990s, Unit Moebius released its records on Bunker Records, a label formed in that same independent milieu and later a lasting landmark of the Dutch electronic underground. Unit Moebius' sound is distinguished by dry rhythms, taut acid lines, raw textures, and a deliberately rough production, far from polished or functional techno. The group then moved along the margins between acid techno, dark electro, and industrial, with a frontal approach that placed it as much on live stages as in the alternative dissemination networks, notably in the Netherlands. Unit Moebius played at Noorderslag and also appeared on VPRO broadcasts. After the trio's dissolution, Jan Duivenvoorden revived the project on stage from 2007 under the name Unit Moebius Anonymous, while often still billed as Unit Moebius, extending this heritage of radical techno born in The Hague.
