Uli Jon Roth
German guitarist and composer Uli Jon Roth was born in Düsseldorf in 1954 and established himself in the mid-1970s with Scorpions, for whom he was the lead guitarist on the albums "Fly to the Rainbow" (1974), "In Trance" (1975), "Virgin Killer" (1976), "Taken by Force" (1977) and the live album "Tokyo Tapes" (1978). After leaving the band, he founded Electric Sun, a group oriented toward psychedelic hard rock with a strong melodic dimension, documented by "Earthquake" (1979), "Fire Wind" (1981) and "Beyond the Astral Skies" (1985). Roth’s solo career then developed around a rock style with pronounced classical influences, as evidenced by "Transcendental Sky Guitar" (2000), his reinterpretation of Vivaldi’s "The Four Seasons" on "Metamorphosis" (2003) and the conceptual project "Under a Dark Sky" (2008). Alternating new compositions with revisitations of his 1970s repertoire on "Scorpions Revisited" (2015) and "Tokyo Tapes Revisited – Live in Japan" (2016), Uli Jon Roth favors a highly expressive guitar approach, marked by long melodic lines, a taste for improvisation and a fusion of hard rock, heavy metal and orchestral language. Present on many international stages, he remains associated with the more melodic currents of European hard rock.
