The Funk Hunters

Formed in Vancouver by Nick Middleton and Duncan Smith, The Funk Hunters have since 2009 developed a crossover of electro, future funk, glitch hop, soul, disco and hip-hop, built for the DJ format as much as for songwriting. The duo first made a name on the British Columbia scene, riding the wave of festivals and clubs on the West Coast of Canada, with a lasting anchor at Shambhala, before expanding their activities to North American, European, Brazilian, Australian and New Zealand tours. The Funk Hunters’ sound rests on smooth bass rhythms, funk samples and textures, sung choruses and a dancefloor energy that remains tied to African-American music. After the Harvest Edits EP in 2011 and several volumes of the Fully Loaded series in 2012 and 2013, The Funk Hunters have intensified collaborations, notably with Chali 2na on the Illectric EP in 2016, and later on several singles. The first album, Typecast, was released in 2018, followed by Typecast (Remixes) in 2019, and Music w/Friends in 2022. Their journey has also crossed with artists such as A.Skillz, Moontricks, Defunk, Dr. Fresch or K Theory, in an aesthetic that blends breakbeats, funk grooves and contemporary electronic production without being limited to a single register.
