The Whitest Boy Alive
Formed in Berlin in the early 2000s around Norwegian musician Erlend Øye, The Whitest Boy Alive brought together a German-Scandinavian quartet that quickly adopted an entirely live approach. Originally conceived as an electronic project, the band soon abandoned programming in favour of a blend of indie pop, funk-tinged nuances and song-oriented writing, driven by guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. The group released its debut album, "Dreams", in 2006, characterised by stripped-down grooves and moderate tempos; "Rules" followed in 2009, emphasising more melodic arrangements and the repetitive structures inherited from dance music. Alongside Erlend Øye’s activities with Kings of Convenience, the band played extensively across Europe and Latin America, building an identity around a tight band sound and a minimalist aesthetic. After a long hiatus from the mid-2010s, The Whitest Boy Alive returned to the stage occasionally and released the single "Serious" in 2020, continuing a trajectory where Berlin’s club culture meets an intimate pop sensibility.
