The 5.6.7.8's

Formed in Tokyo in 1986, The 5.6.7.8’s reunite today with Yoshiko Fujiyama on vocals and guitar, Sachiko on drums and Omo on bass. The Japanese trio has since its beginnings developed a rock nourished by garage rock, rockabilly, surf music and punk, with a marked fondness for the raw sounds of the 1950s to the 1970s, short riffs, dry rhythms and revisited covers. After a notable appearance on Ikasu Band Tengoku in 1989, The 5.6.7.8’s began to circulate outside Japan from the early 1990s, notably in Australia and then the United States, before expanding their tours to Europe and other international stages. Their discography includes The 5.6.7.8’s Can’t Help It! in 1991, The 5.6.7.8’s in 1994, Teenage Mojo Workout in 2002 and Tanuki Goten in 2014, as well as the live Live at Third Man in 2011. The band’s trajectory takes on a broader dimension with its screen appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1, where The 5.6.7.8’s perform several tracks, including their cover of Woo Hoo. Faithful to a simple and direct formula, The 5.6.7.8’s have continued since then alternating original compositions, rock’n’roll heritage and regular live activity.
