Team Dresch
Formed in Olympia, Washington in 1993, Team Dresch sits at the crossroads of punk rock, post-hardcore, queercore and the riot grrrl momentum sweeping the Pacific Northwest at the time. The band initially united Donna Dresch, Jody Bleyle, Kaia Wilson and Marcéo Martinez, before Melissa York joined on drums after the first album. In direct, taut, melodic writing, Team Dresch blends abrasive guitars, spare rhythms and shared vocals to carry lyrics rooted in queer realities, political anger and intimate experience. After a first 7" in 1994, Team Dresch released Personal Best in 1995 and Captain My Captain in 1996, two albums issued on Chainsaw and Candy Ass, which circulated widely in American indie scenes. The band also appears in the documentary She's Real (Worse Than Queer) in 1997, a testament to the era's queer punk scene. Split in 1998, Team Dresch reformed in 2004 for the Homo-a-Go-Go festival and since then has pursued a more intermittent activity, between shows, selective tours and reissues. In 2019 Choices, Chances, Changes: Singles & Comptracks 1994–2000 was released, a compilation accompanying the reissue of their catalog, followed by the singles Your Hands My Pockets in 2019 and Story of the Earth in 2020.
