Theo Lawrence
A solo project blending soul, blues, country and rock, Theo Lawrence grew out of Gentilly in the Val‑de‑Marne around Franco‑Canadian musician Théo Berlioux, influenced by Tommy Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf and Bo Diddley. Initially active as Theo Lawrence and the Hearts, he assembled a band in 2016 to perform his compositions—guitar, rhythm section and keyboards—and released the double single 'Heaven to Me' and the EP 'Sticky Icky' that same year. This first lineup, associated with the French rock and soul scene, notably performed at the OÜI FM Rock Awards ceremony in 2017 before promoting the album 'Homemade Lemonade' on stage after its 2018 release. At the same time, Theo Lawrence founded the label Gentilly Potion with lyricist Leila Benbouriche, later renamed the project under his own name and renewed part of the musicians. In 2019 he recorded the album 'Sauce piquante' in Georgia with producer Mark Neill, affirming an aesthetic nourished by Southern soul, rhythm and blues and classic country. Continuing this mix of vintage American music and contemporary songwriting, Theo Lawrence issued the vinyl single 'Plus de sauce' in 2020, the EP 'A Country Mile' in 2023 and the albums 'Chérie' and 'Pickin’ & Singin’' that same year, while releasing a number of singles between 2021 and 2024 that further explore the crossroads of country, rock and soul.
