Beenie Man
Born Moses Anthony Davis in Kingston, in the Waterhouse district of Jamaica, Beenie Man has established himself from childhood in the dancehall world, where he begins to toast at a very young age before recording his first tracks in the early 1980s. His trajectory crosses several phases of Jamaican history, from local sound systems to international stages, with a style rooted in dancehall, ragga and reggae fusion, blending fast delivery, a sense of clash, catchy choruses and production designed for both club and radio. After a first album, The Invincible Beenie Man: The Ten Year Old DJ Wonder in 1983, Beenie Man restarts his career in the early 1990s, notably around the Shocking Vibes circuit and festivals such as Reggae Sunsplash. Albums like Blessed (1994), Maestro (1996), The Doctor (1998) and Art and Life (2000) mark his evolution toward a more international format, without breaking with his Jamaican roots. Beenie Man then multiplies collaborations in reggae and R&B, and signs several tracks widely played, among which Who Am I, Girls Dem Sugar, Feel It Boy and Dude. His career remains also tied to clash culture, notably to his rivalry and later rapprochement with Bounty Killer, with whom he records Legendary in 2014.
