Sunny Day Real Estate

Formed in Seattle in 1992, Sunny Day Real Estate initially brought together Dan Hoerner, Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith, later joined by Jeremy Enigk, whose high, emotive singing became a central feature of a songwriting approach that blended emo, alternative rock, post-hardcore and indie rock. Sunny Day Real Estate's sound is built on guitars that are at once tense and melodic, pronounced shifts in intensity, and a more introspective than frontal take on 1990s rock. The band released 'Diary' on Sub Pop in 1994, then 'Sunny Day Real Estate' in 1995—often called LP2—before their first breakup. Mendel and Goldsmith later joined the Foo Fighters, while Enigk pursued a solo path. Reformed in 1997, Sunny Day Real Estate recorded 'How It Feels to Be Something On' in 1998 and 'The Rising Tide' in 2000, evolving toward a broader, more structured rock. After another cessation of activity in 2001, the members reunited occasionally—most notably in 2009—and relaunched Sunny Day Real Estate in 2022 with Chris Jordan on bass and the return of Greg Suran on guitar. In 2024, Sunny Day Real Estate released the track 'Novum Vetus', originating from an earlier writing period and reworked by the current lineup.
